Investment Jargon: Money Market Fund (MMF)

Money Market Fund (MMF)

A fund that invests in short-term, low-risk assets like cash deposits, treasury bills, and short-dated government debt, and very short-term corporate bonds, aiming to preserve capital while paying a modest return close to prevailing interest rates. They’re often used as a place to hold cash within an investment account, offering more flexibility than a fixed-term savings account while carrying a bit more risk than a bank deposit, since MMFs aren’t covered by the same deposit protection.
